Verbal and Nonverbal Communication

Communication:
People think that communication is something different and we don’t know it but actually each and every living thing communicate with one another. Communication is an act of sending and receiving information. It can be through speech, behavior, signs and written. The main purpose of communication is to make people understand and convey information.
There are two major divisions in communication as Verbal communication and Non – verbal communication.
Non – Verbal Communication:
Non – verbal communication is a form of conveying messages in non – linguistic pattern. This includes body gestures, signals, facial expressions, eye contact and many more.  Nonverbal cues rely on expressions and replace the verbal messages. Smiling, laughing, crying, pointing, caring, touching, and glaring are non-verbal behaviors that are used to understand by people regardless of different country people. Such non-verbal signals are very useful when verbal communication is not effective due to language obstacles.
Verbal Communication:
Verbal communication states spoken and written transmission of a message. In spoken we pass the message by word of mouth.   Speech that is read mostly does not have the same impact that is delivered instinctively.  In speaking we all assume that the opponent understand what we say but actually not. Here the listener brings his own thought and discernment, attitude and emotions about the topic.
Initially verbal communication (written) started with pictographs that were made on stones. Later after the invention of paper the written communication has become standardized and followed throughout the world.  At present we use electromagnetic radiation and electronic signals to transfer the information. Verbal communication both written and spoken is used in business, political, family and interpersonal.
Difference between spoken and written communication:
Spoken communication is considered as informal where as written communication is considered as formal communication.
Spoken language is almost synchronous and the written language is asynchronous. Synchronous message is a real time speech for example with a friend and Asynchronous message is not instantaneous and occurs for long period of time for example letters, emails, or any kind of text.
The written format always has a proof and record while the spoken format is of without any record in general.
